Inside Q-LAB: test stations, X-ray and decapsulation
Independent testing laboratory · Oberhaching near Munich

Quality assurance starts before goods receipt.

Why Q-LAB

A component reveals its inner workings before it reaches your production.

Decapsulated components with exposed die under the microscope

Q-LAB tests electronic components for customers in the automotive, aerospace and medical technology sectors. In these industries, a small quality defect can have serious consequences.

X-ray imaging and decapsulation show what a standard incoming inspection cannot see. This includes the chip maker’s logo on the die.

Six answers before you entrust us with your components

Three services, matched to your requirements

As a test laboratory, we sit in the supply chain before goods reach your production.

If a fault occurs, we also support you with analysis at component and assembly level. We share our know-how in training courses and work with customers and institutes on research projects.

Test stations at Q-LAB
01

Component testing

Every batch is tested to a defined scope and documented per lot. Testing follows industry standards, your specifications or our recommendation.

02

Failure analysis

We apply our test equipment and expertise to find the root cause of faults in components or assemblies.

03

Training, research and development

Quality assurance training and joint projects with customers, universities and institutes.

Storage and preservation strategies for every component

Components change in storage, too. If you keep them for years, you need a plan.

We set a storage and preservation strategy for each component. We take into account the component, its packaging, its moisture sensitivity level (MSL), the storage period you need and the application. This secures critical stock, last-time buys and discontinued parts for your production.

Long-term storage for electronic components

02

Q-LAB LTS Preservation

Drying, repackaging, testing before storage

Q-LAB LTS Quality Assurance

Regular inspection, solderability test, electrical tests and a documented condition assessment

Test scope matched to your requirements

Based on years of experience, we suggest the tests that fit your task. We also follow your own specifications. If you need testing to an industry standard, we meet it. We also run single tests, for example solderability checks on parts with older date codes.

If the tests show that deeper analysis is needed, we adjust the scope. Our partner network gives us access to many more test and analysis methods.

01ESD test: packagingCheck of the protective packaging and dissipative resistance.
02Labelling and packagingComparison of label, date code, batch and container.
03Visual inspectionOptical inspection under microscopes at up to 1000x magnification. Automated for larger quantities.
04Re-marking and surface testsSolvent test for subsequent printing.
05X-ray inspectionDie size, bond wires and position within the package.
06XRF material analysisAlloys and plating, compliance with the RoHS standard.
07DecapsulationChemical or thermal, with comparison of die markings.
08Solderability testWetting test using an established test method.
09Electrical testsElectrical parameters, characteristic curves and functional tests.

A report that stands up to a complaint

Every batch comes with a detailed test report. It documents the quality checks and all tests performed.

A second person checks every report before it leaves Q-LAB (four-eyes principle).

Our reports are written to be easy to read. If something is unclear, we will walk you through it. Whether you work in purchasing, quality assurance or development, we speak your language.

A laboratory built for industries where errors are not an option

At Q-LAB, we test electronic and electromechanical components. The laboratory was set up in partnership with a renowned research institute.

We built the lab so that components can be tested independently of external test laboratories, with the know-how kept in-house. We see it as our responsibility to protect customers and partners from quality defects and counterfeits.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Not sure what you need? Tell us the component, the quantity and the reason.

Request testing
What information do you need for an enquiry?

The manufacturer’s part number and article number, the quantity, the packaging type and the reason for testing. If you have your own test specification, send it with the enquiry, and we will follow it.

What happens after the enquiry?

We reply within 48 hours with test scope, effort and schedule.

Is it necessary to order all test steps?

No. You choose the test steps that suit your task. On request, we recommend a test scope.

How can a counterfeit be identified?

Because of the wide variety of components and manufacturing processes, there is no single answer. Simple counterfeits often show unstable markings. Professional counterfeits can only be identified by opening the component. To learn more, attend one of our training workshops. By arrangement, we can also run them as in-house training at your site.

Can I see a sample report in advance?

You can download sample reports via the form . We are also happy to show and explain the sample reports in a 30-minute meeting.

Is Q-LAB accredited?

We have started the accreditation process for DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. We expect to receive accreditation by the end of 2026.
